Special Olympics provides sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Our chapter works closely with the Washington County Special Olympics swim team. On Fridays, sisters volunteer with the coaches to run a fun and productive swimming practice. We also attend local swimming invitationals to cheer on the swimmers and share in their joy and accomplishments.

Sisters attend the Special Olympics winter games to help in any way they can. We help on the slopes and inside. The best part of the experience is seeing how excited the athletes become when the torch is lit.

Girls on

the Run

The Girls on the Run program is set up to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. They envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Our sisters love to inspire the girls who work all year. We have sisters even run along side hundreds of girls in the semi-annual 5k. Throughout the year, sisters make posters and bracelets to send to girls across the country. We also send cards and inspirational notes to the girls to show them that girls just like them are thinking about them.
