Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority was founded in 1901 at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Five very close friends had received bids from other sororities, but soon realized they would not all be sisters if they were to except. On November 5, these five courageous women organized Alpha Sigma Alpha. As stated in the charter, "The purpose of the association shall be to cultivate friendship among its members, and in every way to create pure and elevating sentiments, to perform such deeds and to mould such opinions as will tend to elevate and ennoble womanhood in the world."

 

Today, Alpha Sigma Alpha has over 175 chapters nationwide with more than 70,000 members. 

 

Alpha Sigs everywhere strive to uphold the sorority's four fold aims; spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social. The sorority's purpose is foster close friendships between it's members and to develop women of poise and purpose. Alpha Sigma Alpha promotes high ideals and standards for its sisters by providing opportunities through sisterhood, heritage, leadership and service.  

 

The open motto of the sorority is "Aspire, Seek, Attain". 

 
 

 

 

The Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha was founded in 1991, at California University of Pennsylvania.

Since the chapter's founding, the ladies of EY have striven to uphold the four aims of ASA through their involvement with their philanthropies, the university, and the community.
